I got sucked into this hat. It does 3 things. It makes a cowl, a hat and an ear warmer. I’ve made 4 so far, and one more, but not the same pattern (I added eyelets)
Renee from The Invisible Loom changed the needle knit “Emergency Hat” to the loom knit version, “Triple Z“. It’s sold for $4.50 on Ravelry and is worth every cent. It also includes instructions on how to do it with 4 different gauges (peg spaces) on different looms!
It looks complex, but it’s pretty easy if you can knit and purl. There are increases and decreases, so it “walks around the loom” as you’re decreasing on one side, and increasing on the other.

It’s done in short rows and can be seamed together after being bound off, or you can use a grafting/provisional cast on, both are what I’ve done. I prefer the provisional cast on, but was confused on how to use it because the pegs are constantly moving. I finally got it tonight!

It requires a 3/8″ loom with at least 51 pegs (you cast on 50, one is for the increase, you will end at 50 pegs). You could do it with bulkier yarn on a different gauge (peg spacing) loom, just needs to be tweaked, which is pretty easy. It’s easy to change the pattern to fit you.

I’m addicted to this pattern!
So check out the pattern links and the pics of the hats I’ve done! The Triple Z does have a low cost, but it’s going to charity. It’s a super fun pattern, I’m sure you’ll love it!
And here is my variation, I call it “Blizzard”. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, but it still looks good.
I recommend this pattern for pretty much any knitter, it’s amazing, fast, I made 4 in a week, while being at school 40 hours! I added eyelets.
